I love my HGT. Poeple must think "Punto, its only got a 1.2". How I laugh as I leave them behind me. Saxos, BMW's, Mercs even my mates MR2 can't get away from me (thats the 2.0 GTi-16).
But, I hate, really really hate having to fill it up. A typical fill up goes like this:
2p of fuel, cut out
3p of fuel, cut out
1p of fuel, cut out
2p, cut out
4p, cut out
How annoying is that?

I have seen many posts about turning the nozzle upside down but I find it doesn't help and it leaves marks on the paintwork.

Are the new models any better (mine is the Y plate 2001)?

I die of embarressment every fill up  try to go when I know its quiet. Feel a right moron stop going. And mine is 2003

Try not putting the nozzle in all the way....

:yeahthat:

mines a 2004 and i get embarassed when i fill up too  , not putting the nozzle in all the way seems to help a little , just need to put it in enough to lift up the flap, i also find having it on an angle lets it flow better too

i also dont grip it hard, a gentle grip and little pressure on the trigger works wonders for me

God i thought I was the only one with this problem!!!

I used to get very embarrased too until one day a nice man came over and told me to take the nozzle out a bit!
I didnt know it was just another one of those 'fiat things'!!!

Just rotate the pump nozzle 45 - 90 degrees anticlockwise. I tend to push it right in when its at this angle.

Works fine then.

I've got a 2001 HGT - I see what you mean about the paintwork. I twist the nozzle a little way, then pull it out about half way. This seems to work - but there are a few fuel pumps that seem to dispense fuel at a gallon a second and it just won't cope :D

Whereabouts in Cambs are you from gr1340, might have seen you about :)

You have asked me that before Ems. I live in Great Stukeley and work in Peterborough. I can be seen driving around Huntingdon sometimes and even as far as Upwood on airsofting Sundays.

Yes im not the only one! Mine does the same! gets righ on my tits and its only a 1.2!!!!

I just dont put the end right in! she likes it better and drinks all the juice with no cuts!

^^^^^^^^That sounds extreamly dirty sorry!

I think its something to do with the anti-siphon device not working properly... The nozzle cuts out because of the air pressure getting bigger when the tank is full (thats the point afterall) but the fuel going in stops the air getting out of the vent to the side of it( you can see the little holes either side of the filler hole), causing the pump to cut out.

Its the same effect as trying to drain a tin of fruit with a penknife can opener, make one hole the juice will not flow... make another, opposite, it will...(I'm a scout leader)

I only used to put tenners in my Punto so wasnt too bothered about it. A Ford Focus I had once did the same. Is there any reason for it?

My focus does the same........I just make sure theres fuel in it otherwise let the wife take it that day & let her refill it (y)

Yip happens on mine, i've found if you point the trigger nearer the door flap, and only pull the trigger say half way, you get non stop (if slower) fueling.

mine does the same too - although i find that when it cuts out the first time remove the nozel so the trap door closes and then push it back in again and it works fine if i do this each time.

Try replacing the safety valve on the breather pipe, also check that the breather pipe is clear as they can block up . also a slight kink in the pipe will cause this . I had the same problem took ages to put fuel in until I changed the valve
Was also told by a Fiat tech that he has had a couple of filler hoses that were faulty and caused this problem
good luck
