Hi Guys,

Just thought I would give you some feedback.
After months of juddering in my car: Mk2 1.2 8V

- When idle, the car would judder so erracticaly, a can of coke would fizz up
- Had to keep pressing the accelator to keep the car running.
- When crawling along in second or first gear, felt like it was going to stall
Then to top it all off
- Engine warning light came on and complete loss of power :(

The car went into the garage and I was told a new head gasket would be needed - Fair enough (I was advised that this is quite common in Punto's)
This was fixed under warrenty and I ask the garage to see if they could find the source of the juddering.

Subsequently I was advised that the juddering was caused by the Tapetts having residue on them, they weren't closing properly!

After this, the car is now perfect, I have to open the window to check the car is still running :)
Might be of use to those of you still suffering, check the tapetts.

The Garage were great and kept me posted all the time, they even transferred the 3 year warrenty for me. (y)

Hmm, interesting. So the juddering might have another cause.

Mine is acting strange lately, reving up till 1K on idle, blip the gas and it stalls. Switch on again and it keeps on 1k.

Just for info, when the juddering originally started, I took it to the garage and was told that due the lower emissions, the fuel mixture was leaner and ultimately this made the car act as if it was constantly going to stall.

Not being at all knowledgeable about cars, I accepted this - seemed fair enough.

The Juddering however steadily got worse and I took it back again, the garage did not know a fix and could only suggest a look under the bonnet.
Due to the fact that if they would not have found anything I would have had to pay...I declined this offer.
The Garage were great though and understood - they told me to keep them posted and if they heard of other issues like mine, they would let me know,

It was only after new head gasket was diagnosed, were the garage able to look for the problem with the juddering and fix it.
And of course, as they were doing the headgasket anyway, this got fixed at no charge. :D

I am unsure whether a tapett issue would be covered under warrenty?
(As I said, I know nothing about cars, so please forgive my ignorance  )

I posted about my car juddering while idle as well, but it only did this for a few days and stopped. However a few days later the fuel injection light came on so i brought it to the garage in case the problems were related.
They told me there was nothing wrong with the car and that the light came on because of some phantom code that can randomly pop up. And i was only charged 25euros!! Cant complain!
Couldnt believe it got into the car this morning and the damn warning light is back on :bang:

This is awesome news..! i just really hope that this is the same problem with my 1.2 16v..? ill have to go garage and check it out, thank you!

Juddering when the car is cold can be caused by simply a dirty throttle body, test for this by leaving it to run until the engine is warm, if its fine throttle body is suspect. If juddering continues even when warm thats when theres bigger problems

My Punto mk1 also judders and goes into really low revs when it is sat idle, this only happens while idle and does it more while the engine is warm.

I do not have any idea what this could be, it has done it now for around 4 months.
