u put ur foot down engine revvs car doesnt move like it should then clutch will grip and u accelerate normal

My clutch pedel felt stiff for the last few inches of travel, and with the engine off and the windows open made a dodgy squeelchy noise at the last second. I noticed it more when using clutch control at junctions on hills and things, it would pull away very roughly as if I was pressing the clutch down and back up halfway through pulling off, and when on the flat it felt as though the engine wasn't pulling anymore. Replaced the full clutch (ouch on me wallet) and it's good as new!

Was that for a mk2 Punto? Where did you get it done?

MK1 55s ('95) I had it done at the local garage along with:

2 new front shockers
complete clutch (including thrust bearing, presure plate etc)
water pump
timming belt
Anti freeze

All in came to £417 but most of that was labour, parts were about 220 for all of the above, timming belt and anti-freeze were less than a tenner combined, , shocks £58 so I am guessing the clutch alone would be about 120 - ish give or take + labour.

Faults with clutches:

'judder' when taking up drive around the biting point
'slipping' when accelerating/taking up drive- all revs and no go
Noisy release bearing- goes away when clutch pedal held down
Noisy diaphram plate- noise happens when clutch pedal held down at bite point
clutch 'drag' when gears sometime crunch, but gears obtainable
stiff pedal when diaphram plate faulty
friction plate material low/worn resulting in gears hard to select
broken diaphram spring- gears hard to select
