Whilst driving a short distance this morning My 2003 Punto started to cut out when I placed it into nuetral or when I pressed the clutch to the floor and coasted i.e. on approach to a roundabout or junction. The revs just seemed to be falling from where they were (say 2500rpm) to zero and when they reached zero the engine cut out completely.
It started to do this everytime and I had to restart the engine at every juction etc until I got it home.
Also when changing gears the car seemed to have a delayed bite in ingaging the selected gear. When I changed gear and brought the clutch back up (all the way with my foot completly off the clutch pedal) it would coast as if it were in neutral for a second or two and them jump into gear as if I had raised the clutch to fast.
Then when I got home and was sitting idleing outside my house it would 'die' almost as if it was about to cut out and then the revs would increase to 2100rpm themselves without me touching the accelerator.
It's booked in for tomorrow at my local dealership for a diagonostics test and probable repair depending on the problem and whether it is covered under the warrenty but does anyone have any ideas what the problem may be incase they try to tell me something else and try to get me to pay for the repair as it isn't covered under warrenty when the true problem is???
The EOBD System Engine Control System warning light came on and stayed on ( didn't flash on and off) about 10mins after the problems started.
Any help or advice greatly appriciated.
