Hi friends, what's u guys opinion for Fiat Punto 1.2 16V ELX Speedgear with CVT technology?

Hi ive got a 8v with cvt its wicked beats anything away at trafic lights coz you don't have no pause between gears, you just press the pedal till you get to the speed you wan't then take your foot off then just touch the pedal and it crusis at that speed.
some may remember old daff's and volvo 340 ctv they had rubber belts and normal clutch plates, and were a lot of trouble. the new ctv's have a metal belt and electric clutch no hassle.

I've also got a hyundia lantra it has a 1.6 16v mitubishi lump and normal auto box, my punto has about same top end speed but gets there a lot quicker than the lantra and uses less than half the amount of petrol,

Hi,

We've got a 2002 ELX Speedgear we bought from new and it is great to drive and very nippy too. It is even better on the motorway because the CVT gives you a higher gear, so at higher speeds the revs are quite low. The fuel consumption even with air con on is really good.

We opted for air con, side & roof bags, remote locking, met paint.

Thanks for u guys' reply, is there any bad things u heard abt Speedgear CVT?
- What should i take note for the maintenance?
- What kind of modification can be done on Punto Speedgear 1.2 16V?

Hi,

The older Mk1 auto's did have some isssues, but the new Speedgear is very reliable. I have a friend who works at a Fiat dealer and he said they get very few problems, less than the manual version.

Maintenance is not really an issue, they need the fluid changed and filter changed, but not for a very long time (I forget when it is).

I think you can chip the engine, but the gears work at their most efficient so there is not much which can be done. There is a economy mode which changes up quicker, but I don't really use it.

The only thing with the Speedgear is they do tend to eat brake pads quicker than the manual, but thats about all. Even then it isnt that serious. And, also, make sure the tracking is ok on it.

Hi,

That is one thing, the brake pads won't go much past 12,000 miles unless you do a lot of motorway driving. It's like most auto's you have to hold it on the brakes in traffic unless you can be bothered to go into Park or Neutral.

Hi Friends, thanks for ur reply :) May i know how to chip the engine?

So far i have done modification on:
-Novitec Exhaust System
-Kingdragon Drop in air filter
-Fuel Magnet (give u better respone of engine)
-Grounding cable (Ur engine will go smoother)

I intend to remove my Cat soon with exhaust extractor, but i wonder whether my exhaut noise will be loud or not, cause i don't want to be disturb by traffic police!

Any other modification available for my punto?

Regarding the auto transmission maintenance, I believe it's recommended to be done every 40,000km or 25,000miles

Hello to all! Confuse me one thing. When set my automatic gear box in R, N, or D position inside gear is visible. Upload photo about. Is it correct or no?
