TOTAL NEWBIE ALERT

I have a 2000 1.2 Punto ELX with the Blaupunkt 6 speaker audio and subwoofer in the boot. I am now upgrading the head unit to this http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2152&tab=2&osCsid=6259ccb2d2ba60f51d1a3541734df1b7 Sony unit which i'll get fitted at Halfords. But will the head unit be compatible with the speakers, the head unit says 4 X 50W, does this mean that only four of my seven speakers will work.

Probably the best post in the world.

Well, because its a fiat and its easy to change the stereos on them, and because your buying a sony head unit even easier.

There's an adaptor you can get which connects your new stereo to your existing wiring, which is sold at halfords, that allows your sub to run.

Your other six speakers are divided into some crappy 4" rears and a set of components up front wih 1" tweeters behind the door mirror controls and 6.5" speakers in the doors. The components count as your front speakers and only use one set of wires from your head unit. (look in your manual, theres a rough wiring diagram). So in short you'll get 50w to each rear speaker and 25w to each of your front four speakers. (Well its not quite in that ratio for the front but it gives you an idea).

Best bet is to ditch those rear speakers, and replace them with either some good quality 4" speakers. JBL GTO's are quite good and also to remove that active sun and replace it with a decent sized sub and amp when funds allow. Then look at replacing the fron components with some decent 6.5". Infinity make a set, i cant rememeber the model number but they fit well and sound excellent.

You can either keep your exisiting speakers for when you sell the car or put the system on ebay including the head unit. Theres a lot of people with basic models that would buy the upgrade
