Does anyone have a guide as to how to change the airbag squib on a mk2?

It's the squib behind the steering wheel not the airbag its self, I code read it at work yesterday

The squib it built into the airbag unit, there is one in each airbag (or 2 if multi stage airbags).

Are you on about the clock spring :confused:

EDIT: I'm getting my knickers in a twist, you are correct. You'll ideally need a new one (also known as clock spring) to ensure its centralised (they're sealed in place when new), or if using used, remove it yourself and cable tie it to keep centralised.

Hhaha was getting me worried then :p was going to go to the local scraps tomorow think it might be cheaper but not sure wether it's wise using a second hand one that's all
 
The "squib" on diagnostics refers to the actual airbag unit ie the whole Middle of the steering wheel

You can see the dealership if you want to buy a brand new one, it will be about £300.......

Probably better to visit the scrap yard, better still it's probably not the airbag at all but a dodgy connection somewhere a long the line
 
Hmmmm that's interesting about the airbag unit, I only said the squib as that's what my boss said it would be after he read the diag print out
 
The diagnostics will say something like 'airbag squib open circuit' or 'airbag squib high (or low) resistance' the 'squib is the airbag but more often it's the wiring that causes the fault and is frequently a broken clock spring which I think is why the clock spring gets called the squib because people are fixing a fault with the 'squib' by changing the clock spring.

The issue is Punto clocksprings very rarely go wrong

I thought the squib was the airbag, so I was right, bloody googled it and it was saying clock spring :bang: :p

if the fault is on the steering wheel airbag.
then you need to swap out the Squib..its not just the squib tho it all part of
the indiactor assy two..steering wheel off job to replace.

there is a locking tab on them..if it isnt used then the replacement one normaly breaks on fitting them they are fragile.

there is a diagram on Autodata..which shows how to fit them safetly with the aid of a cable tie.

ive no longer got access to autodata so..im unable to post up a picture.:(
 
AD says
Remove airbag
Center wheel before clock-spring removal
Prevent movement by using a cable-tie
Ensure assembly clock-spring stays centralized
Replacement units have a locking tab pre centralized - remove during installation it says

The picture shows new - not how to cable tie it...
