Hi all this is my firat time here.... i have a punto mk2 1.2 8v recenty my car is knocking as soon as I put the padel to the metal my car begian to lose the power. For example if i try to rev the car on free from 1000 rpm to padel to the metal it goes up to 4000rpm and stops there. It seems that my car is burning alot of fuel, it is a bit rich i think. When i put it on first gear it will accelerate fast but as soon as itbgoes up to 4000 rpm it starts to knock and does not go up so i will put it on 2ng gear and agin gos up to 4000rpm and starts knocking again it does this all the time on all gear. What can i do? Do you know what could be the problem of this?? Thank you

Just to confirm you reved a could engine in neutral to wide open throttle (pedal to the floor) and now the engine will not go beyond 4000 revs and knocks.

Engines are not designed to be redlined without load as it chews up the internals. I always cringe when I see boy racers having rev contests in car parks as they are just destroying their engines.

If you are lucky this could be a missfire which would cause rough running and high fuel useage. Missfire would most likely be bad plug lead or a failed coil pack but I would expect the engine light to come on.

Does the car idle ok or does it feel like it's running on three?

Hi.
if the engine is knocking..it wont rev high.
What is your goal here..?
do you want it to rev so you can finnish it off ?

seriously the engine will be scrap..once they start knocking its too late.
its not the end of the world tho..you can pick up decent engines from low/mileage breakers for around a ton..

Hi is there any reason that you are accelerating to 4000 revs in every gear, from when I was learning to drive I was always told to associate 10mph to 1st gear, 20mph to 2nd gear 30mph to 3rd and then once at 30 slip it into 4th. I would have to agree with all of the above that revving to 4000 each time will absolutely destroy your engine. Pehaps consider an automatic next time :/
