Only trouble is that my car has just ticked over to 60,000 miles and the speedo on eBay is on 58,000 miles.. So basically does this make it impossible to change it over?

As mk2 and mk2b DONT change over very easily - if not at all

Since you've done 60k
And the HGT speedo is 58K - it could be fitted, and have proxy alignment done to correct the mileage and stop it flashing
But not sure about the other dash features working properly

IF you were super serious about making the dash ""more sporty"" Lockwood iirc do a white dash conversion that looks blue instead
