Hi having problem with fiat punto 1.2 elx speedgear 2000 reg. When you select gear in manual or select economy button it is supposed to display on the dash lcd but I get nothing the gear selector is working in manual mode but having to go by ear as to which gear im in. also the eco button does not seem to work at all. I have replaced the button traced wires and there no breaks cant see if any fuses relate to the eco button but the fuses for the gearbox are all ok. Any help or advice appreciated as local fiat dealer always charges an arm and a leg just to find a problem and then decide there even more needs doing. Have found several guides usefull on the site hence registering to get help. I am not very technically minded when come to cars so please bare in mind when explaining something. Thanks in advance.

Hi.

perhaps dash clocks is faulty. im not clue'd up on Auto's so thats just a guess,

S and b dont seem to be on the forum' shame realy as he wouid more than likely know,

wheres S and b gone btw?. forum aint the same withought him, :(

All connections on rear lights were done last month when had issue with lights all corrosion been removed and contacts cleaned earth point cleaned and re-connected as well. have had cover off of gear lever when fitted new button and button connection is clean as well. the car did have a barrel replacement 2 years ago before bought it as previous owners key got stuck in barrel so maybe there a cable near this ?

Hi and WELCOME TO THE FORUM

If you can select the gears ok, then its unlikely to be a problem with the gear selector or button.

Its also unlikely to be connected to the ignition barrel change.

When the car is in Auto mode, does the dash display correctly? Ie P,D,R etc.

hello thanks for reply but no nothing displays on the dash other than clock, headlight angle and mileage.

Hi,

In that case I would suggest SOMONE may have fitted a dash from a non automatic in the past.

You should have D,P, N etc on the display when in automatic mode.

Fitting a dash binnacle from an auto will more than likely cure your problem. To confirm you could check the part number on your original binnacle.

if the digital display fits between speedo and rev counter its a manual, if it extends into them its an auto

Hi,

You DEFINATELY have the wrong dash, as I say, that will be your problem. That is a base spec dash from a manual car.

When searching for a replacement, make sure...

The milage is lower than your cars miliage.

It's from a speedgear

It's from a mk2 not a mk2b

You won't need to worry about avoiding hgt/ diesels etc as you will only be able to fit one from another speedgear.

You may need to carry out proxy alignment via MultiECU scan or dealer to match the miliage and stop the dash flashing, but try it first as it may not be necessary. Depending on your location one of us may do it for you for a cup of tea +biscuit if you don't have access yourself.

Hope that helps

thank you will look see if can find one for speedgear seen loads about but god knows if find right one lol then are they relatively easy to replace or is this a mechanic job?

Hi,

I imagine a standard one was fitted as the speedgear ones are fairly rare on eBay etc, but they do come up.

It's dead easy to fit, and we can guide you through it. As I say, the only slight stumbling block is if it needs proxy alignment. But you can either do that yourself with MultiECUscan and a cable + laptop, or post a rough location and see if any of us are near enough to assist.

Hi mate,

Part number should be 46753577 assuming we are talking about a uk car with drivers side airbag etc. They were modified in 2001 though to 46779056 but iirc they should be interchangeable.

If you keep an eye on eBay for "punto speedgear cluster" or "punto speedgear dash" or "punto speedgear breaking" and also try gum tree and the forum classifieds, you should find one eventually!
