Hay, can anyone help me? I want to get a steering wheel from a 2008 -2014 Fiat punto, and put that in my 03-06 fiat punto, Im told that as long as it has an airbag in the wheel i can put this new steering wheel in my old punto.

I just wanted to check this out, also want the new steering wheel to have music controls too hoping this will work with my 03 punto

Thanks for your advise

In formation I have found on another forum:

Make sure the wheel is straight.
Disconnect battery and leave for 10 minutes.
Remove airbag by undoing the bolts at the rear of the wheel.
Remove the large bolt in the centre of the wheel.
Swap steering wheels over.
Do the above in reverse making sure you correctly torque the centre bolt.

Also I have seen a few people swap out steering steering wheels for the sporting version so I think it should be okay? (unless yours is a grande then I am unsure)

no you can't not only are the splines on the steering column different between the two wheels, the later 2006 onward cars used multistage airbags which won't work properly or safely in your car

again this won't work because your car is very unlikely to have the wiring in place and the later cars use the canbus system to relay info from the steering wheel controls to the stereo

i suggest you scrap that idea.... sorry

i find the sporting wheel tiresome after a long drive because the rim is more egg shaped
the one in my dynamic is standard but has lots of nibbles left on it to grip with, so unfortunately i think this is the best wheel fitted to these puntos even if it does look naff
i wouldnt imagine the later wheel would fit due to shafts possibly being different and having removed a wheeel a few months back that it would seem had been hammered on causing airbag clockspring failure but more importantly possible failure of the steering wheel to grip the splines in an emergancy manouvere just shudders me to think of the possible consequences

sometimes things safety related should be well left alone

so dont do it(y)
