Hi All,

First of all, thanks for all the great advice on these forums. Using guides on here I've purchased a set of diag leads, downloaded multiecuscan and have had good fun working on my Son's Punto.:)

We've cleared a few problems of late (Power steering - new steering column and passenger airbag switch - switch cleaner!) but still have one issue remaining I could do with some advice on.

The drivers airbag light is on and multiecuscan shows:
08 - Driver squib circuit - Open Circuit - Intermittent/Present 123

I have cleaned connections at the airbag ecu, the passenger airbag switch (solved previous problem) and where the airbag loom connects the the steering column - I assume this is the squib? Error still exists.

Any advice on any areas I have missed (Passenger airbag connection?) or on what parts I should look at replacing first please?

Thanks in advance

Cheers
Jamie

08 - Driver squib circuit

squib is fubard or airbag has bad connection to it,
id guess,

if steering column is recent install, squid couid of been damadged then,
they is fragile if not locked off with cable tie before replacing.

There can be confusion here so just to clarify

squib in multiscan means the airbag it's self, the squib being the explosive device that deploys the bag

Commonly people call the clock spring 'squib' this is the black canister behind the steering wheel which carries the wiring from the dash into the steering wheel and keeps the connections despite the steering wheel being turned.

An open circuit on the squib means a wiring fault somewhere between the airbag ecu and the airbag it's self.

It could be the wiring through the dash the clock spring or the airbag it's self or any of the connections in-between chances are what oldhammer is saying is correct in that the fault maybe with the 'squib' (meaning clock spring) as it's intermittent I would clean up all the connections but before doing so remove the steering wheel airbag from the car as any static sparks or accidental connections could set an airbag off in your face put the bag well out the way then work through the wiring from the steering wheel to the airbag ecu,

Make sure you remove the battery from the car half an hour to an hour before doing anything.

its always the clock spring
use common sense
disconnect battery
swing left leg
have nice english cup of tea
water roses
remove airbag
remove steery wheel
remove cowlings
remove switches with clock spring
replace with known good replacement
etc
go play cricket
drink pimms

is good

Hi,

I have the red airbag warning light active. When I checked with multiecu scan i had the faults (below) stored;
08 Driver squib circuit Value too high Intermittent 166
08 Driver squib circuit Open circuit Intermittent 167

I deleted the codes and they didnt come back (yet).

I suspect the wiring between the airbag module and the steering wheel airbag has become damaged.

Can anyone tell me the wiring routing so I can check?
How easy is it to access the wiring? (how long will it take me)
Could it be something else?

I will be sure the ignition is off and the battery disconnected for 30min before I start work.

Thanks for your help!

Hi, I had the same problems, and also believe when I replaced my power steering motor may have knocked some connections for the drivers airbag? I have since cleared the warning faults which are the same as yours (except 52 rather than 123). Did you manage to fix this? I am just wondering if anyone has any pictures of where the wires related to the airbag is as I am ready to clean them and have recently purchased the wd40 contact cleaner. I guess if its intermittent this means the airbag has a chance it wont come out if there was a crash?
