Morning All,

I have this slight knocking noise at very low speeds! It only arrived yesterday afternoon when setting off at a low speed from a car park. There is a slight knocking noise and then suddenly the brake pedal became really hard, harder then normal! That is the only time the brake pedal as felt like that, the brakes feel okay and stop as they should. The brake pedal hasn't done that again, bit the slight knocking/tapping sound remains, it's only there or noticeable at low speeds though?

Any thoughts?

Sounds like a seizing caliper possibly or slider

As its applied the pressure makes it clunk suddenly into place
Whennu take off the seals try to pull it off it suddenly

It goes hard because that 1 stuck cylinder is already full of fluid
The master cylinder has then 3 brakea to fill with 4 areas of brake fluid
Si hard pedal till the stuck cylinder backs off

Also make sure you check ur wheel bolta are tight its free cheap and easy anybody can do it

Thank for your reply Ziggy,

I've checked all the bolts and they're all tight! The brake pedal only became hard that one time and the brakes feel fine.... The knocking noise is only there when I set off a low speeds, in a straight line and turning..... Do you think it could be a brake problem then?

is there a possibility you have a collapsed brake hose?
does car have abs? even--? and modulator sticking? any abs light on dash?

It all came about very suddenly. The car were fine when we parked, 30 minutes later this all happened when we set off.....

see zigs post then
inspect caliper for freeness and also consider as i said a collapsed brake hose internally holding that brake on
you really need wheel off looking at everything

I can't do anything until I get home :/ if the wheel is hot what would that mean?

if the wheel is getting stupidly hot - and the other side isn't

Its 1 clue to a possible brake caliper problem

The brakes are constantly rubbing harder then they should be - as a result - its causing friction
friction = heat

Heat = problem

Problem = Gets worse

Well I set off home (200 miles) and immediately thr knocking were much worse and much louder! The faster I went the worse it got. The brakes didn't work too well and made the noise worse! I've had to turn back around and park the car up,200 miles from home :/

i see you live in leylandia luncashire
that means you are 200 miles from there
why not post up where you are now and someone might live near to come and have a look for you

I've finally made it home, thank god I have Green Flag with my Insurance policy! The guy brought me all the way home (196 miles) and the car is back on my driveway. He said that the brake pads had completely worn away and the cv joint has popped out. Any ideas on how much I'm looking at, new discs and pads, and either a new cv joint or this one repaired?

Most probs..around 120 I sh.

You need to maintain this pun to better...

Since pads have gome metal on metal you need a front overhall
Your lookonh 10er ea for front discs
15 - 20 for brake pads

The cv joint should come as a kit at about 20 - 30 I would have thought

U cud try a 2nd hand driveshaft but its a risk of a nackered cv on that

Ziggy

I'll get it into the garage tuesday morning amd let them take a look. I'll let you know how it goes.

Michael

I had no idea that the pads were down, they had always felt fine and never made a noise....

Take a wheel off say once every 6mth.. look at the pad thickness..
If you do this then it saves you buying discs..
I let mine go half way and then bin them.. they is peanuts to buy..

Easy to change..with basic tools.
