Technical re-timing following cam belt failure

Technical re-timing following cam belt failure

Thanks a lot for this info - but, I'm not sure it's enough. Lining up the crank is okay but it could be in that position twice during the 4-stroke cycle. Let's assume when the crank is lined up with the timing marks piston 1 is at top dead centre, that could be at the end of the compression stroke or the end of the exhaust stroke. For the compression stroke I would need to time the camshaft so the valves are shut, for exhaust I would need the exhaust valve open. Essentially, the crank has lost it's position! Do I need some device to enable me to read the crankshaft position sensor output? Then I would know which part of the cycle it thinks it's on when I line it up with the timing marks. Does that make sense?

PM me, as I'm not too far from you ( the A34);)
and I've got the relevant paperwork, (y)
I'm even in need of Punto parts if it's beyond repair..
