Hi Guys,

My girlfriend has a 2000x punto sporting, which I have been driving over the last couple of days. I noticed on Friday that the N/S rear brake was graunching - I thought this was a little strange as I replace the rear shoes and drums only 13000 miles ago. Then yesterday, the ABS light came on as I was driving, and after a further few minutes the handbrake warrning/low fluid light came on. Fearing the worst I stopped to take a look - the fluid level was OK and there was no obvious leaks, so I checked the owners manual -apparently this shows an EBD fault as well as an ABS fault (I didn't even know it had EBD!!!)... When I turned the engine back on all was OK, I drove about 1/2 a mile then the ABS light came back on, but this time no futher lights.. I noticed that every time the engine was restarted, all was Ok (no lights on), then after a short time/distance the ABS light came on (sometimes with the EBD warning too)...

When I got home I thought I would have a closer look at the N/S rear brake. When I took it apart, the leading rear shoe was completely worn away on the top edge - I think there may be a problem with the wheel cylinder, but the more worrying thing was the ABS sensor assembly.

There is what looks to be a toothed "rubber" part running under some sort of proximity sensor, this looked to be very damaged, some of the tooted parts looked to be melted away (I wonder if the drum has been heating up as it rubbed?). Obviously I need to get this to a garage to get it looked at, however, I wondered if I will need to buy a whole NSR hub assembly to replace the damaged sensor wheel, or if I can get hold of these separately?

This is looking like an expensive job, as the front discs are past their best, and the car also needs a 48000 service - I would like to keep the costs to a minimum, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

James
