hard to help what can we do realistically

did you do a pin through check with a buzzy multimeter?

i took one of my leads to bits once because i thought it had failed but it just wouldnt work on this particular car

do you not know anyone friends family with a punto you could try on to see if it works on theirs?

I've managed to find a friend with a punto and I've tried the cables with the adapter and it worked straight away.

What should I do now?

well your asking so im telling
i wanted you to get to this stage before we could move on
these mk2/b ecus seem to be easily corrupted to the point they dont work it might be old age or even the fact the enviroment on the top of the transmission tunnel gets extremes of temperature im not sure
it might be electrically related due to earthing issues
anyway the way i sort these is to find one in the scrapyard and swop them out ,you obviously need to get one off a non bumped car so ecu not fired
connect into your car after basttery disconnected obviously then communicate with it via eobd
these are plug and play so work straight away in a different punto so you can just do the airbag light check on ignition switch on if you prefer ,if lights go out then system working

you must match numbers up on ecu if you have 2 airbags get one from a similar year to yours and check the long number is the same ebay will give you a clue but you should get one in a scrappy for less than a £10 as noone normally wants them
