Well, first of all, you have to fool the airbag ECU into thinking that both airbags are still there. Many aftermarket steering wheels come with a device that pretends to be the airbag in lieu of the driver's airbag, presumably a device like this can be used for the side airbags too.

However, aside from the obvious side-impact safety implications, you are making a non-standard change to the vehicle. Technically, you have removed a safety system which was originally fitted which is an MOT failure. Now you would be very unlucky to go to a test centre that knows that your model should have the side airbags, but if they do, they have no choice but to fail the vehicle.

Also check your insurance implications.

I don't think your insurance company would be happy at all obviously the insurance cost of your vehicle is worked out partly on the safety to occupants so removing them is to take away a safety device, it could be done you use a resistor of equal value resistance to the airbag to fool the ecu to think the airbag is there, but this has implications for instance if the other airbags didn't go off in an accident then the modification could be blamed, and the other question is why change one good interior for another good interior

Q; question is why change one good interior for another good interior

Because my driver's seat has wear on the edge.
& Basic Sport (go) interior is better. more comfier and hard wearing compared
to blue sporting seat's.
+ sporting seat's are hard to find or go for silly money or look like theyve been
chewed by staffbull terrier.

update.
ive bought another sporting interior. 75 quid..

its not in good condition mind but this is being sent off to be re done in leather.

350 quid not cheap but hopefully it will look the part and last.

can i ask why you didnt fit an alfa interior?
you could buy some woolies colouring if only grey availabubble

@ s&b -ilooked into fitting alfa seats
seems to be to much faff fitting back seat's.

so decided on retrim, all door cards are getting done too
so it shouid look the part,. me hopes anyway.

when alls done iwill have two interiors to get rid of (ebay) so hopefully
iwill get abit of coin back. thats me plan anyway.

When it comes to it i reckon this rear seat fitting will be really easy:)
Hope you are going to post some pictures when its done including doorcards
Any chance you could fit heating elements whilst they are being done?
Cant beat a hot bum on a cold morning:D

Hope everything goes well and not even a hint of the colour yet(y)

i can't wait to see some pictures either, a retrimmed punto interior has to be better than an alfa interior in my view.

though having some seat heaters fitted isn't a silly idea, you'l be very thankful when its -2 outside and your leather seats are all warm and toasty rather than the freezing slab they would otherwise be

Looking forward to seeing pics of this, always been interested in the Alfa 147 seats, think this will look very smart indeed though

If I remember correctly I think someone fitted leather material themselves over the stock punto seats, can't quite remember who though??
