Hi

My x reg punto started to lose power and shake. I pulled over to check and it seems to be misfiring really badly and cutting out. When i driving it can hardly make it up hills. I am in first gear struggling. There is also a knocking sound under load sounds ok on the flat. I have checked to valves to make sure they are going up and down and all seems ok. There is no signs of loosing water or oil in the water. The head gasket was changed about 2 years ago along with the ECU. Any ideas chaps:mad:

when my ecu went, car still had some power nothing near what u are describing, your coil packs, ecu, ht leads or spark plugs are bad

a legendary chap fingers once suggested the following

Probably is running on two cylinders (which would explain the fubared CAT).

Try the old trick first:

Remove the air filter housing so you can see the plug leads, open bonnet, in the dark start the engine, look for blue flashes. If blue flashes, replace the leads. If no blue flashes, replace the spark plugs.

If the problem persists, find out which plugs are wet and petrol smelling, note down which cylinders they belong to, and get back to us.

I had identical symptoms when I had a blown HG between cylinders 3+4, although could also be a coil pack, so check for spark at each plug - if that is fine then a compression test just to be sure?
