Hi guys,

On two occasions the warning light has shown on the dash and the steering was awfully heavy. I restarted the engine both times and it worked fine straight away.

Is this the battery problem or a costly power steering repair?

Thanks

Update:

Plugged in a diagnostic tool under the steering wheel and no codes shown? Is this the only place to check for codes?

It's intermittent and only seems to do it when cold and upon startup?

Next check is battery?

New update, lol.

Had a battery check which turned out the battery was knackered. I think he said it was showing 70%?

New battery fitted so hopefully problem solved.

Check battery both off load and under load, same with the alternator. These power steering motors require a lot of voltage even just for half a turn, so if the battery isn't performing as well as it did when new, it's going to struggle to push the required voltage to the steering.

For diagnostic, have you got a reader that can be used with fiat? The odd few are only suitable for certain cars.
