I recently broke down and had to get a tow home due to the Timing belt tensioner going, Ive been told that due to the FIRE engine that the Punto has the belt and tensior replacement should sort me out.

I have done the tensioner and belt and are aligned correctly.

But...

When you turn it over it fires once, then jams, free's itself and fires again but is not running.
Its a P plate punto 55s 1.1

Anyone have any ideas? I could do without buying a new engine.

Thanks

Craig (1st post, help me please)

thanks for the quick reply, I will get it checked. Still open to any further suggestions so I can run through any suggestions in one go.

I dont know how a FIRE engine differs from any other, but if your timing belt goes while you're running there's a good chance you've knackered your valves and/or head.

The jamming you describe is symptomatic of distored valves after a timing belt failure. It could be that it's only a few therefore some cylinders fire whilst others (for example) might not compress due to the bent valves producing a poor seal.

the Fiat F.I.R.E, engine is a safe engine=not bent valves

Thanks for the advice guys, by the time I got home to sort the problem my dad had already done it but it was the crank pulley notch that needed to be in place.

Thanks again (dont need a new engine.... for now. :) )
