Well today I decided to attempt to remove the notorious dog bone engine mount and well..it won't budge!

I tried all day with breaker bars, spanners, the lot and then took it to several garages who either refused to due to risk or charged hours of labor..although ats had a go at it with their power guns and all that jazz but no luck..they said they cannot push it anymore as it will snap, when I asked about applying heat they said it cannot be done in that area...

All they suggested was packing it with rubber...pff

Anyone have any ideas? Or is heat the only way now?

problem with heat here is you wont actually get it on the captive nut only on the bolt so unlikely to be successful
it was good of ats to try a wizzy on it because if it broke most people would be ranting and raving and waving the taking away of human rights etc
i would either gum it up with a quality rtv or be prepared to get another subframe
i dont try taking these out now for clutches just pull them to one side and hold them with a spider

I'd try a penetrating oil -- not WD40! -- and leave it a few days.

Failing that, or if you want to go ahead right now, a polyurethane -- Sikaflex or Tiger seal -- and leave it 12 hours or more to go off.

The other way would be to chop the end off the bolt (leaving a stud, but -- I'd think -- better access for heat and penetrating oil). It's rare for anything to resist a combination of the two.

Iagree with S&B Leave it alone,

get it up in the air and pack it up with sikaflex or some other strong stuff,
pack some slices of hose pipe in if you have to,
leave it over night to set,

ihad trouble with mine,as imentioned in one of your other threads,

there will be plenty more people postin threads on..snapped bolts because no one reads these threads,

they only read them once theyve had to buy bus pass,

I did mine on the punto, long bar and crack it was out, only after did i find out that they are prone to snap, glad i didnt know that. anyway got away with it but if had known would have tried packing it first as you cant get to other end of the bolt to drill it out from the top.

I actualy have seen a repair done on a broken one years ago, think was easier to fix than replace subframe, involved cutting bigger whole in subframe and welding in a new nut in same place, using a shorter bolt, as the big end covers the repair it cant be seen, done right is as good as original. ok if you handy with the gas welding lol

Didnt S+B have issues with MOT man when did this - saying structurly wasn't sound afterwards?

Thanks for all the replies! Think its best to go with the pack it up with rubber and sickaflex it,

Will get hold of some sickaflex tomorrow and attempt it..any tips when filling it?

Thanks for help! :worship:

I think maybe you should do what I did... use a heatgun... lots of heat straight up the bolt. It will budge as I had to replace the dog-bone/subframe

Majority of the bolts were seized until I used the heat gun. I think if you need to replace the mount, you crack on. If all fails.. replace the dog-bone or have somebody drill out the bolt.. professionally haha.

And get some GT-85 on it!

If you go the sikaflex route, wear rubber gloves (the stuff sticks to anything) but use a solvent to clean where you want it to stick beforehand.

Acetone or panel wipe will shift it while wet, otherwise it will need to be cut off.

I'm going to first try the sickaflex method, sealing it up and then if this doesn't help the issue then I will take into consideration all of the input you guys have given to attempt to remove it :)

Yes I've heard that it sticks to pretty much anything and everything!

Is it better to fill the original mount just with sickaflex or is it worth filling it with bits of rubber then sickaflex on top

Thanks

use a screwdriver to force bits of rubber in,

you can use Hosepipe, old rubber car mats work,

wet your fingers when working with sikaflex or any other silicone,

idea here,

how about removing this bolt here, (see pic)
subframe is hollow is it?

spray loads of stuff in put bolt back in leave for abit and see if dog bone bolt
free's up,

are the subframes hollow?
