Hey there, fellow fiat owners!

This is my first post, so i would like to introduce myself. I am Andy from Necastle-under-lyme, aged 18. I own a standard 1999 (T) Fiat Punto Sporting 1.2i 16v with no mods.

I have a problem that i cannot lay my finger on. Basically, cutting a long story short, my second gear grinds when im in motion. It only does it on the odd occasion, usually when im accelerating hard, or moving down too second going about 25+ mph. Has anyone got an idea of what this could be? It driving me crazy!! :bang:

Sorry, ive just realised that i have posted this in the wrong section. lol Sorry!!

That actually makes sense, thinking about it. My mum had a problem with it a while ago, bascially it wudnt even go into gear. Thanks for that. You have any idea how much it would be to repair it?

If we are on about the same thing? Just tell me what syncro does?

i don't know if this helps, but when i bought mine which is similar to mine, it uses up a lot of oil and the gear problems which i had cleared up as soon as the oil was topped up!!! hope it helps

Mine doesnt use alot of oil, its only just been serviced actually, so the oil has been replaced, and topped up.

@dave - What does iirc mean? Does the syncro alllow the gears to move smoothly in the gearbox? Im an ammature to the world of car mechanics, its a hobby actually.

Thanks for everyones feedback (y)

i aint very technical on this but the same thing happened on my car i have been quoted £280 to get it fixed
basically i think it slows down the cogs to enable the car to go into gear, something like that,my car wont even go into 2nd gear at all i just go from 1st to 3rd.

The synchro allows you to enter gear without the revs on the engine 100% matching the speed of the gear. Otherwise every gearchange would be as smooth as it is if you try and hit reverse when you are still moving forward slightly

They used to get over it in the old days by 'double-de clutching'

IIRC: -If I remember correctly...

What did you have done?

Well, I am just about to go on holiday, so will sort it out when i get bak.

Do you know if this is the solution? And how come you are selling these boxs?

Thanks

Ok cheers.

You dont know if this is the solution or not?

If you change the whole box then its pretty safe that the problem will go away, without looking at it myself like.

Good luck!
