Take fuse out turn ignition on then switch off put fuse in then turn on done it a few times worked without fail

when my power steering failed i looked it up and i found out that the power steering motor are attached to 2 relays.
Tyko as i recall its name.
Replace them and
All good as new
Look up the relay names to be certain
Best regards my friend

I have the PAS problem on my 2004 Punto 1.2 8V. It seems to happen at random, but usually after long periods of not being used- restarting the car and simply driving it appeared to be a temporary fix. I have checked the condition of all the connections between the battery, the alternator and the steering column and they are all fine, and the voltage across the battery reads 14.2V (drops to 13.9V under loads such as heater and lights on), but the problem persists. What could the cause be in this case?- been thinking it might be a less-than-perfect battery but I would like to be 100% sure before sorting it out.

Hi. A good charging circuit is crucial.

I had a sporting that needed revs to get the power out of the alternator at cold.

Hi to all Punto mk2 followers….

Newbie to the forum by several weeks, owner of a Mk2 1.9 JTD…….have been reading up on the EPS issues threads to understand the various common issues.

Have had an Intermittant EPS warning light ongoing for 12 + months, transitioned last month into a permanent warning light. Throwing EPS ecu codes C1012 and C1013, Multiecuscan software testing:-
- Vehicle speed signal from CAN reading 60kmh when ABS module shows it as 0.0kmh at stationary
- Alternator status from CAN ‘not recharging’ when alternator charging at 13.9 to 14.3 volts

Since both of the thrown codes are CAN related, I started with static tests on the OBD plug,
CAN H against CAN L = 22.75 k ohm ignition off, no where near the 60 ohm expected.

Checked earth leads and ground points:-
- Earth leads……(battery to chassis, chassis to gearbox, multi loom earth next door to chassis earth, 1 below ABS box to wheel arch, 1 below bonnet release, multi loom earth in boot)
- Uncouple and recouple gang plugs on key CM’s, using some contact spray to assist

Started to identify the different control modules intending to follow CANBUS wiring and do an isolation test on each module to try and isolate down to 60 ohm, came up with:-
- Main ECU (windscreen valence area of engine bay)
- EPS ECU (Steering column)
- Airbag CM (floor mounted centre tunnel, under dashboard)
- ABS ECU (engine bay, passenger side firewall)
- Integrated ECU / Fuse board (drivers right knee)

I am struggling with the following questions:-

1. Not sure about relevance of Dashboard clocks…..yes in Canbus loop but are they a Control Module
2. Fuse box in engine bay, looks like a straight fuse box despite the gang plug connections on the back.
3. Struggling to get a good wiring diagram for Canbus for the 1.9 JTD, particular CANBUS wiring colouring for CAN H and CAN L loops
4. Struggling to understand which CM’s are fitted with termination resistors, so I can target the additional ones 1st. (I am guessing but would opt to Main ECU and Integrated Delphi Unit & Fuse board by drivers knee)

I would welcome any suggestions about C1012 and C1013 fixes apart from follow up on the above.

Many thanks

Hi,
I have got same problem with my 53 plate punto.
Power steering goes off, I read errors and I have got both c1005 & c1006, delete them and recalibrate angle sensor but problem appears again.
Car have got new battery and alternator is charging 14V even with main beam on.
Anything I should check before replacing steering angle sensor?

HI all,
[Punto 1.2L 16V 2006 188 automatic]
EPS light comes on during driving at random for past 3 years (even after battery replaced).

My sister told me that sometimes it even stopped working, I have done few test drives and I only saw the light came ON but had no affect on the steering wheel, to turn of the light I had to turn off the engine.

EPS working smooth, no noise or other issues, just random warning lights and somtimes EPS stopes working.

What do you think? can it be the torque sensor?
I ask because I have GP 2007 1.4V 8V DualLogic and I had Torque sensor problem and I have replaced it, very easy and cheap but for my car it caused grind noises, had to turn the wheel to make the light go OFF, it was different story.

Thanks in Advance!

Kudos to my brother for this - most electrical faults are earthing problems. Turned out my Punto 04 steering light problems were solved by thoroughly cleaning the negative terminal and its connections - the power steering return is directly connected to this connector. A squirt of electrical/electronic contact cleaner also seemed to help. Occasionally in damp cold weather the light comes on again. Turn the engine off and
on and it goes away. As the moderator says the system is sensitive to the voltage it gets, also the current used is large (70A fuse) so any slight resistance in the system is a problem. It is a very clever solution to power steering though.

Hopefully this might help someone. Had intermittant PS problems with my 2003 Punto Mk.2 1.2 16v over the past year which finally became a permanent problem about 2 weeks ago. Read all the guides here etc (thanks to those who posted them !) checked battery / alternator (both ok), then a diagnostic came up with dead PS motor. Not being confident enough to change the 2 Tyco relays myself I sourced a reconditioned motor (with a 2 year guarantee no less) for € 100 and fitted it in less than an hour. No more warning light :) If you're in France I can recommend Direction-Electric dot fr for helpful advice and quick service.

That's cool that you were able to solve the problem!
