Hi, after owning my first Punto for a year, I have now purchased another, this time a 1.2 16v 02 reg Sporting in Broom Yellow with 79000miles (y)

First off I haggled and got her cheaper than I should have as it does have a few niggly issues, but I see this as a project car and plan to keep it for a few years so I don't mind starting low.

Got some good plans for her in the future when i can, but for now it's all about fixing already present issues and givin' her a good clean and full service (including a cambelt change).

Firstly I will list some of the problems that it does have and there's a few, also any help or ideas on these would be much appreciated! -

- the central locking does not work, have to lock both doors individually or from the inside and the door light stays illuminated on the dash, also the interior lights stays on. (Not sure if I'm meant to have remote central locking?)

- the passenger door doesn't catch properly, like it sits too low, sometimes it hits the catch when trying to close and you can see the catch doesn't move out of the way.

- Handbrake light intermittently comes on and off when driving (handbrake sensor or brake fluid?)

Also some advisories from its last MOT:

- basics such as pads worn, etc. but also "rear brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrules" and "n/s and o/s brake hose slightly deteriorated"

- more of a worry these next ones: "offside front suspension has slight play in a lower suspension ball joint"

- "n/s and o/s front floor subframe mounting area is corroded but not excessive"

- "brake hydraulic reservoir fluid close to minimum level" (surely this should have been sorted there and then!!)

and finally

- "Steering column top bearing slightly worn"

I plan to inspect all of these issues with, I'm sure the help of this forum ;)

Here's a few pics, not good quality coz of the lighting and camera

Thanks :)

Haha do love a clean car!

Ok what do I need to look for under it?

I plan to replace disks, pads, drums and shoes, and bleed system so was thinking that maybe I should replace the brake pipes?

I thought it should as the key looks as if the button has been removed, also I have a black box in the top right corner of boot that I guessed to be some sort of central locking receiver..hmm would this explain the dodgy doors and locking?

Thanks.

Yes button is missing,
you can get new case off ebay ..few quid

have you tried pushing something fine in and see if it lights up?

100 quid for cambelt fitting is very reasonable,
iwouidnt fit one for anything less anyway, good price that, (y)

Yea I've tried but nothing works and the light doesn't work either..

I have opened it up and replaced the battery that was loose (clearly see it is remote central locking now) but still no luck, what can I do from here?

I thought it was a good price!

Lovely, it'll be worth it all when you've sorted all your niggles out! Hope there isn't too much rust - Which reminds me I still need to get mine looked at then undersealed.

Yeah I can't wait to get started with all the plans I've got for it..unfortunately my money can't keep up with my motivation!

Yes I hope it isn't too bad, undersealing is something I hope to tackle aswell! Good luck with your car too!

I suspect that's not the right key for your car, it may have had the locks and body computer changed at some point from a later model car.

It's quite likely you don't have remote central locking

not sure mate,
mine is abit newer only slightly tho (52) slight differnce, airbags in seats etc,

ipresume all sportings have R.C.L. and the base models didnt,

have alook on (eper) input vin
