Drivers Seat Back Collapsing

So was driving along in the car yesterday when there was a clunk and the left hand side (as you sit in it) of the drivers seat back collapsed a bit.

The seat back is still upright but there is a definite 'lean' to the left on the seat back and it does appear to be looser around the mechanism than the right hand side of the seat (at the bit covered by the plastic casing with ratchet handle for adjusting the angle of the seat back.)

Have had a bit of a poke about but can't see anything obvious. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks!

I would try adjusting seat in every position to see if it cures it. otherwise sounds like you need to get another seat from the scrappers

Re: Drivers Seat Back Collapsing

There is four torx bolts under the plastics holding the seat back in place. They become loose over time, tighten them up and everything should be fine.

Thanks for this suggestion, I'll give that a go this weekend - I don't suppose you know how to get the plastic cover off do you? It's the side that has the handle to adjust the seat back angle.

Re: Drivers Seat Back Collapsing

You can just pop it out. If it's 3d, you must remove center cap first. There is two screws holding the plastic in place. It's a bit tight to get out because of the seat belt lock.

I bought 5d seats from better equipped model to my 3d Punto so had to strip them to get the frames changed.

I had a go at this today - found the offending bolt - tried to tighten it up but wouldn't tighten enough stop seat back still moving.

On closer inspection I removed the nut and as in picture below you can see that it was spot welded on - reckon the spot welds breaking was the clunking noise when seat back first went.

All I need to do now is figure out a way to reattach the nut to the frame!

get a seat mate
ive nearly lost fingers messing with these
you can always swap the seat squab and the rear cover over to the replacement if you wish, im sure therers a sticky on it in guides and it only takes an hour tops
