I own a 2001 punto 1.2 8v It started running rough about 6 weeks ago, had new battery, spark plugs, head gasket, water pump, coil packs, (all in the last 6 weeks) still rough sounding on idling, not much power on accelerating, and eventually just cuts out.
I've been told that it now needs a new ecu, quoted at 300 just for the part, then it needs fitting and programming, don't know if thats a fair price or not? Or should I be looking elsewhere?

If they cannot justify any of the work with the following methods, then go elsewhere. To me, it looks like they are guessing:

Battery: Did they do a drop test?
Head gasket: Did they do a compression and/or sniff test? Also, ask what was involved in the work they completed. If they fail to mention that the head was skimmed then they haven't done it properly. Cambelt should have been renewed as part of this process too.
Coil pack: What did they do to eliminate the HT leads as a possible cause first?

Also, is the engine management light on, or has it flashed on at any time during driving?

Cheers,

Mick

Needed a new battery because apparently the one I had was leaking, my spark plugs had watery liquid on em
When my head gasket was done he did my water pump and timing belt at the same time

Not aware of anything to do with leads being done thou?

Where's that from?
Is it easy to fit?
Are all ecu's the same as in theres only 1 in my car?
Sorry for the questions :)

So £300 is a little over expensive?

£300 is way OTT.

The chances of a car needing all that work in such a short period of time is very remote.

I understand that some folk don't like the rest of the world to know where they are, but if you did fill in the location thing in your details someone local might be willing to help out/point you to a trustworthy garage, etc.

That on eBay is 70 + pnp.
Is that all I'd need?

contact seller' and give them some details of your car.
as Said above. Wise words of S&b we don't know if that's correct ecu listed.
so Making sure you get the right one wouid be between you and the seller,
im sure they will sort you out tho, (y)
