Hi all,

I've been having some problems lately with the Punto (MK2B 1.2 16v) where it looses power when accelerating unless I can get it over 30mph, also the engine warning light comes on and lately its getting worse. Anyway, based on what I have read and some advice here, I decided to replace the HT leads. I have just done that, and now if I rev the car I hear a squeaking noise, a bit like the sort of noise 2 rubber tyres pushing against each other would make.

By the way I fitted each lead one by one and they aren't cheap ones either. I have tried disconnecting them and reconnecting them (one at a time) still the same issue.

Any ideas?

Hi mate,

Did the new HT leads cure your original problem? If the EML is on or has been on then there will be codes stored so its worth having a look at these.

Re the squeak, its unlikely to be connected to the HT lead change. where abouts roughly does it come from? does it increase/ decrease with engine speed?

My guess on the basic info supplied so far is that the squeak may be the alternator/ aux belt. To eliminate you can always whip the aux belt off and start the engine and see if the noise disappears.

Hiya,

Thanks for the reply.

It gets louder as the engine is revved further. I have ordered a cable to get the code of the engine fault but I haven't tested the car properly if the leads have fixed it as I was a little worried about the noise.

The sound does seem to be coming from the area where I put the leads into i.e. coil pack area.

this noise could be anything even a partially blocked cat
why not get the opinion of someone in the trade to have a look?
