Hi all,
I am new to the forum and would like some help as a friend has asked me to look at her car as her husband is away with work.

It is a 1.2, 8 valve w reg punto. The engine cranks nicely, but I get no spark from any ht lead. Also the fuel gauge does not register and flashes empty. I have tried jump starting it and have cleaned the battery terminals and fuses in the engine fuse box as they were very dirty.

Has anyone come across this problem before ??

Many thanks

Many thanks, I will have a look. I have already looked down the throttle body which looks wet but I have not as yet removed a plug.

Any idea why this would have the flashing light on the fuel gauge? are they connected do you think because she said that it did not do this before

Errm, not sure TBH. It has an injector for each cylinder and two separate coil packs if that helps.

Any ideas how I would test the crank sensor. I am assuming using a ohm meter, what reading should i be looking for?

Hi I am just about to order a new crank sensor, but I am not sure which one. The engine is a 1.2 1242cc w reg (2000) (Engine number 9655915) (chassis number ZFA188000050*****. Do you know which sensor I would need.

Many thanks

yes classic ecu failure warnings

Apologies Blu73, you have been helping me for a little while now and I just realised I have not thanked you for your assistance.

So here it a big thank you. Sensor is now on order and I will let you know how I get on.

This might help you trace the wiring

Hi, Thanks for the diagram this was really useful. I have checked the feed wire that goes to the coil packs and to the injectors. This is ok (continuity). There is power on one side of the relay but not the other (not engaging). The power wire to the relay from the ECU is dead.

My questions is now. I know it needs a new ECU. But does it need coding and if so how do I do that, I have had alook on a popular auction site that says there are self coding ones has anyone got any experience of these.

Just as a last question, if I bypass the relay and use a wire from the two ports will it start and will it be ok. Has anyone done this.

Thanks all.

you don't, you check for fuel and spark and if you have neither then its almost 100% the crank sensor or its wiring at fault, so if you got neither try changing crank sensor.

Well I replaced the crank sensor and it was not that. See my post above. I think it is the ECU

I am listening S an B. I very much doubt its gone deeper than the ECU. I am going to try applying a bypass wire over the inkector / coil relay power terminal and then see if it starts. If it does I think I will then replace the ECU with one of the virginised ones.

good your listening
just be aware of any other problems from body computer like dodgy indicators before ordering the virgin
:)
