Hi All,

Been having intermittent airbag problems with my old MK2B which I ended up giving to my dad, rather than selling it.

When I had it, the airbag lights would come on every so often, but this also seemed to coincide with starting issues. This was down to a duff battery, I had the lights reset a few times, but eventually they'd come back on.

After I gave the car to my dad, he had the battery replaced, and the problem seemed to go away.

Anyway, it came back, he took it into his local garage and they plugged it in and read the fault codes... they told him it was showing a passenger airbag switch fault, replaced the switch, and reset the codes.... problem solved.

Except, it's come back on again :bang: :bang:

It's both lights that are coming on, my understanding of this is that both lights will only come on if it's a passenger airbag fault. I've just had a look at it, what's happening is when you turn on ignition all lights come on and extinguish as normal, except both airbag lights. Upon starting the engine, the passenger airbag light flashes a few times then stays on solid (driver one always solid). I've turned the passenger switch to off, and now both are just solid.

Due to the intermittent nature of it, i'm beginning to suspect a wiring issue and/or airbag ECU fault. Anyone got any suggestions / ideas ?

I've told him he'll probably need to take it to a Fiat specialist to get it plugged in with the fiat software as the snap-on tools the local garage has possibly isn't reading the codes correctly. But, this costs an absolute fortune, which is a problem as the car is starting to turn into a bit of a money pit.

Anyways, and help / comments / suggestions, much appreciated.

And, if anyone in Glasgow has FIAT ecuscan software wants to pop round for a coffee, you're more than welcome :D

Cheers,
Chris.

The problem is not the switch so that was replaced and it needn't have been.

the issue is the wiring to the switch

basically you really need to get it to a fiat garage and have the new wiring loom installed
see video bellow

what i dont get is why cant you just route trace the wire from the multiplug to the key switch and then just earth the other wire or have i missed something?

Hey did you manage to sort out your airbag lights with this wire fix? I have the same problem and its going to fail its mot with them on. Thinking about going to local fiat dealer to diagnose but it costs a fortune.
Thanks
Chrissy

Got the wire but haven't fitted it yet, probably do it over the weekend. It cost me £7.78 inc vat for the wire, from a main dealer, so it might be your cheapest option to try this first.

You're going to need to get it hooked up to diagnostics anyway, to have the lights reset before your MOT... so, you might as well do it.

For what it's worth, I previously had the lights reset at an indie garage for £12.

Sorry for bumping old thread got exactly the same issue can I please ask where you got the modified loom from I know you say main dealer but I phoned them and they told me £144 ? Thanks
