Hi everyone,
I took off the transmission bellhousing of Fiat Punto 1.2 8v ELX 2000 and I am about to attach it back onto the engine block. However I am missing the pictures I took before taking it off. There is a cable bracket next to the starter motor. The bracket is meant to be bolted on with the starter motor mounting bolts. I know this might sound silly but its better to double check. My question is, Is the bracket sandwiched between the bell housing and starter motor? Any help especially with image will be much appreciated. I have attached some pictures. Please note that I have moved the starter on top of engine for illustration purposes: (picture 1 is bracket, picture 2 - bracket between starter motor and bellhousing cover plate, picture 3 - bracket in front of starter motor).

Many thanks in advance.

i dont think they are sandwhiched

only 2 things that are put between engine and box is a plate that goes around 2/3rd

and one you attach after fitting the box

I believe that plate goes after the box - but tbh - i'd fit it all up and find out then

It'll only be 3 bolts that you'll have to undo

There are about 4 plates that go around on the punto - no idea why

Wow! Many thanks for a swift reply Ziggy. Its my first post although I have been a regular visitor and its nice for you to respond so quickly.

When you say it goes behind the box do you mean as in the bottom picture I posted ? The reason I ask is because the bracket shares the same bolt with the starter motor mounting bolts and one of the bolts does not go through onto the other side of the bell housing and there are no threads on the bracket holes. So if the it can't be sandwiched the only other option seems to be in front of starter motor mounting as in image below. Will that be correct?

If it wont go on the gearbox, im pretty sure it doesn't get sandwhiched, on the 2 i've removed, that bracket wasn't there, and the starter motor fits fine!

So i guess that it yes - must fit like that in the picture

Touble is - if anybody removed these brackets, they often forget to refit them and as a result you end up with some without (like me x2) or with like you

I will try that and see how it goes. I am doing my first clutch replacement so hope all goes well. Many thanks again Ziggy.
