So, this is my first post. As this morning my little punto didn't want to start.

It all started a couple of months ago, when I lost power on the motorway and pulled up immediately in a cloud of white smoke, annoyingly there isn't a temp gauge on my dash and no warning light came on. Needless to say there was lots of white smoke and I assumed a dead engine/ruined head gasket.

Once it had cooled down I topped it up with (a lot of) water and it started first time, perfectly. No smoke from the exhaust, no bad noises, no loss of power, and still plenty of oil in it. A miracle I thought.

Since then, its been using coolant, not crazily it just needs a little top up here and there. However, recently its been getting air locks in the system, as the heaters stop blowing hot. Each time I've sorted those.

This morning however, it just won't start. Starter motor kicks in, everything turns over with much vigour for as long as I want without it draining the battery. there is enough power to move to the car if it's in gear, so I assume its not the battery.

The oil, battery, and engine management all come on as normal and stay on whilst in ignition. But a new light, the Key Code light is also on? Meaning it's immobilised.

has anyone any suggestions, i'm reasonably understanding of engines, however I have little access to decent tools at the moment.

Many thanks

Theres also a lot of oil on the engine and generally around the bay. I've had it two years and I got it in this way, but I guess this could be interfering with sensors?

The key is the same key its had for years too, so I can't see why it wouldn't be recognised?
