I've been offered a 2002 Punto 1.2 uber cheap but it probably needs a new fuel pump according to a mechanic.

It starts and drives but cuts out while driving and then you have to leave it for 20 minutes before it'll start again.

Anyone got an idea what the average garage will charge to replace? I can't really do it myself as don't have access to tools and workshop at the moment.

:yeahthat:

Can't see why the fuel pump would die and recover like that.

Check for spark and fuel (wet plugs, etc.) after it conks. If the plugs are wet and petrol smelling, I'd suspect an electrical issue.

If the EML light is on, code read will give a fairly clear indication unless it's the TDC sensor, in which case no fuel past the injectors and no spark (ecu generally thinks that the engine isn't turning, so no fault code, either).

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately the seller was a time waster and sold the car to someone else before I got there.
