Can anyone help? I am desperate.
Have a V reg punto elx 8v only done 22000 miles, it had all the symptoms of Head Gasket eg white smoke, engine not starting. Took it to local garage and then just 3 weeks later the engine is revving up wildly on its own. Took it to FIAT who says the Head Gasket has gone & want £450 to fix! Its been back to local garage today who has done compression test & swears its not HG. They changed a sensor? But car still revving up worse than ever.

My car used to rev up and down, I got stuck sometimes because it was reving 4000-5000rpm and I couldnt get the reverse gear in. Anyway, a 15£ sensor from fiat and I was all set. It was the water temprature sensor for the ECU.

Re: Revving up on its own -More help needed

Car has been back to FIAT they've changed their minds its not HG its the throttle body instead - they want £330 to fix. Never even heard of this before? Is there any reason why the Head gasket & throttlebody would pack in within 3 weeks of each other?

hi
try cleaning your throttle body,or maybe you have a vacumn leak

you need to clean out the idle valve/stepper motor,it will be all gummed up. its not availible as a seperate item so thats why you were quoted for a complete setup.

Had the throttlebody changed on Wednesday. It ran like a dream... until this morning, engine is revving up worse than before. Any other ideas?

The same thing happened on my, they changed the crank sensor, some ppl I know had the temp sensor changed as well
