Hi All,

I am now the proud owner of a nice red 2004 Punto Sporting 1.4 16v and I have a slight problem.

The car runs lovely but when I turn on the ignition I get an engine failure warning come up on the dash.

I was told it might be the ignition sensor or exhaust sensor so changed them both, this hasn't made any difference.

I'm stumped because the car idles and runs lovely and doesn't misfire or anything?

Do I need to reset the ECU after replacing the sensors? If so, how?!

I'd really appreciate any help!

Charlie.

You just wasted 2x money on sensors.....

parts roulette.....

Anyway, the EML will come on for a multi-tude of reasons
From sensor no response, to sensor reading to high or low, or interferance etc etc
So what is the cause - who knows till you ask what IT thinks might be wrong

Either have a Auto-electrician read the fault code for you
Or download MES (mutli ecu scan) and get a suitable cable
Since your a 1.4 16v you may need the full version over the free edition tho

Look at what the codes are - report back

I've ordered myself a cable so will look in to the fault codes.
Just frustrating as the car looks and runs like a dream!

I'm new to motoring and was hoping there may be a quick fix...!

Really appreciate your help.

Charlie.

It could be something simple as 1 sensor has detected something it shouldnt
or there is a sensor that isn't responding so its running on base programming so you wont know

get the codes - clear - drive see if it detects again

Hi, got a reader and is giving the code P0443. Cleared ot and thought I was in luck but it's back!
Code points to The Evaporative Emissions System (EVAP). Hoping this isn't a biggie.... :(

Hope this helps in some way dude :) gonna take mine to get read at some point this week my eml lights on to :(

I don't suppose anyone knows where the purge control circuit is located?

I still can't get a manual for my model!

Generally the "important" bit is the solenoid and connector on top of the cannister. Not sure, though, where the cannister is on the Mk2. Maybe inside the passenger side wing? (That's where it is on Seis).

You should be able to snag the wiring diagram -- although colours will possible differ -- from the Seicento Technical Manual (in the Downloads Library).

The DTE Manual for the Mk2 isn't a great thing: you may be better off with the Haynes.

Hmmm a 2ndhand car and a missing fuse
There is another storey here

Probably a failed Actuator thats chattering after shutdown = flat batteries is a possibility?

Who knows
could have blown and owner didnt bother replacing since it was still driving fine?

as far as i know - its something that collects the fumes from the fuel tank
Which is then ""injected"" into the inlet manifold on cold start up to prevent the hamful fumes going to atmosphere and allowing it to be burnt off instead which is handy :)
