HI,i am getting a new exhaust including the flexipipe, just wondering about the bolts that connect the flexipipe, the existing ones seem to be welded on one side,so do i have to reuse these? just worried about getting the nuts off, they are so tight and if i damage the bolts do i have to get new ones rewelded,or is that necessary?
tks,tony

Plus Gas or GT 85 at least a day beforehand.

Never done one on a Mk2 Punto, but the MPI Sei system has a small tack weld on the pipe itself (buzz off with an angle grinder) and a small tack on one of the clamps. This can generally be buzzed off and re-used (it's the expensive looking clamp). If you wreck it, a conventional exhaust clamp will do the job.

My guess is that the two sections are aligned on a jig before they get to the assembly line with the tacks to hold in place. Afterwards, we tend to buy only the bits we need.

Literally just changed my centre pipe with flexi on my mk2 8v and they both nuts were that tight they snapped the bolts, so I took the manifold off as its the bit with the captive bolts and just drilled them out ( took about 5 mins ) then just put some new bolts through along with a new gasket to fix them both together, easy job :)

They are tack welded into place

I would advise ANYBODY removing the manfiold at some point to yes replace them studs

They've had a hard life, and it means in future snapping the bolts if they are buggers means you can just literally tap the other half out :)

When i replace mine - i will be using new bolts and nuts

Avoid Nylon lock nuts - the heat will melt the nylon
