Hi all,

I'm a bit lost with this one so any advice is much appreciated.

I've just bought a 16v sporting for the mrs,
Its running well but there's a mystery oil leak.

When its parked stationery engine running reved/or ticking over there's not one sighn of an oil leak but after 15mins on a run its stinking of oil fumes in the car
Oils dripping down on too the exhaust.

Sump and gasket is new.
Head and cam gaskets are new.
I'm lost with what else to try.

Any ideas.

Before I get the swan Vesta out on the fecking thing lol.

Thanks for the reply .

The car as just had a top end rebuild.
Gaskets are new.

There's no leak from the cam cover/extension.
Its further down this is the puzzling part as to where I've spent hours looking for the leak

The oil is been blown just above the steering rack /middle of car and then its
Seaping on to the exhaust.

Thanks

Icarnt see a breather hose.

Any ideas where to. Look for it.

It doesn't sound like it is now... -- but have a look towards the end of this post, in my Members Motors thread: it's the hose that comes out of the airbox, in the middle, on the right-hand side (as you look towards the back of the car...). They tend to split, and can spew oil just about anywhere....

Thanks for the link and the info.
I've took the air box back off. Breather pipe looks fine.
Top end of the engine is dry/no oil.

Under the inlet manifold is soaked.

Leak looks to be coming from the block just past the alternator bracket.

I've also checked the oil level, and its high/over filled..
So I'm now wondering if its why it blowing oil out... but as to where I'm lost.
Around the dipstick is dry.

Thanks Ziggy.

I've dumped some of the oil.
Cleaned everything off and took it for a 30 mile run.

Got back and there's oil all over the bulk head/top of steering rack.
Its not as bad as before but its still dripping on to the exhaust, /fire hazard

I'm now thinking inlet manifold gasket,
I will give that a try and see what happens, I'm so fed up with this car now,
I'm close to putting it on the scales and weighing it in..

probably leaking from your headgasket, oil port on the hg probably leaky? just guessing though. dont scrap it...... just needs better diagnosing with a 2 post lift

Thanks for the reply.
Head gasket is new and the heads been skimmed.

I bought the car as a none runner /cam belt fail-bent valves etc

I've took the inlet manifold back off -that wasn't it. As ioriginaly thought..

Had the car over the pit ..still carnt find the leak..
It don't leak oil on standstill/only happens going down hill from steep incline.
The leak as slowed down now.. but its still dripping on to exhaust.

I might throw some millers stop-leak or the likes and see what happens..
Dunno what else to try next, :bang:

Wanna pack your heart with fat?

Its the same thing with these ""magic sealers""
They just clog up the water and oil ways to seal a leak, but at what cost?
restricted flow?

anyway
Spent 10mins looking on the pictures of a 1.4 16v which is almost identical to the 1.2 16v
Here

Only things that can leak are
the oil dipstick
The Sump gasket
the rare case a HG leaking down, usually HG only leak in, rare they leak out?

unless there is a crack somewhere and its allowing oil to escape

maybe an vacuum guage test will comfirm things?

Ziggy

Thanks Ziggy.

Yeah I agree. On the magic oil stuff, I'll leave that alone idont fancy taking the cylinder head off this thing again..

I'm going to dump the oil and add some thicker oil, 10w 40 perhaps.
The oil what's in now looks as thin as urine.
Been told thin oil in a high mileage engine don't help with leaks .. dunno if that's true mind.

I dunno where the thanks button is or iwouid of clicked it several times.

Excellent forum this'- thanks for all the advice/ideas its much apreciated
