engine management light flashes ?

Hi all ,
New to this forum but i have been having a good read recently about the big ecu problem puntos have been hit by..
I had to replace mine and now my car runs fine BUT
my engine manangement light flashes constantly.
I put this ECU in this morning myself and it has read my code and started fine.
The ecu was virgin and uncoded.
Can anyone enlighten me as to why this light is flashing?
Any suggestions ?
Will this light stop flashing after the car has got used to the chip or something ?

Re: engine management light flashes ?

Let it heat up(fan cuts in)& briefly rev it to 6000rpm then let idle....repeat 3 times & light will go out.I'm assuming its a new style(not Mk1 punto),basically its phonic wheel learning.

diesel use a Much Highter Compression then a petrol engine

So to prevent them blowing the heads off - they dont rev as hard
Diesels dont need to rev anyway - there all torque
plus with a Turbo on there - it'll go when you ask

the 16v Petrols can do 7k Redlined
8v Petrols About 6.25 / 6.5k redlined

Diesels are about 5k max

Re: engine management light flashes ?

Most diesels top out at 4500 and are pretty rubbish between 3,500 and 4000. Apart from the heavy moving parts diesel fuel wont burn fast enough to let it rev higher which is why they belch smoke when thrashed at high revs. Most power is between 1500 and 3,500 with a steep drop off either side.

Phonic wheel learn only applies to petrol models.

If your engine warning lamp is flashing on an mJet, and its a new ECU, you need to go to the Dealer/a specialist who can programme-in the injector codes.

Does it have to be 6000 rpm and does the engine have to be at 90'C or can it just be high rpm and 60'c?

2004 mk2/b punto

Cheers

Re: engine management light flashes ?

http://www.x431ltd.co.uk/website/Lea...20onwards.html

Link above states over 5000 rpm, i had to ask as our mk2/b 1.2 8v petrol wouldn't go over 5k rpm,
sorted now though Reved to 5k - limit in this case, let it idle - re started the car, then i would go over 6k rpm? not sure how this helped but it did

then did the phonic wheel learning jobby, and the light has stopped flashing

Cheers all
