Hi, I've an 2001 1.2l Fiat Punto and only one key.

I need a spare, but I've heard since it's MK2 that it required a chip to disable the immobilizer so the car will start?

I spoke to a local locksmith and he said I'd have to go to a place (which is relatively nearby) but it'd cost about £150, which is ridiculous, half the cost of what i paid for the car!

I think my local place is third party, would I have any luck going to a Fiat Dealer or doing it online and getting a spare key cheaper or will it be the same?

about 4 weeks ago i had a key snap i took it to a local key cutting place and they couldnt do it so i took it to timpson which was actually in a local tesco lol and after several attempts (where the key had snapped it had also bent) they were able to cut me a new perfect key they also did manage to get one pretty close so gave me that one too lol including new chip cost was £45. the guy did say that the usual cost for a spare key was £75 they are awsome would highly recommend the one i went too x hope this helps

Yes your car is immbolised if the car doesn't see its keys

You can have a new key and cut cheap, it'll unlock the car and allow the ignition to be turned on

However the engine wont start - the key code light will be on the dash and it'll turn over till the battery is flat

As your local auto-electrician if he can program you another key in for a small fee

Fiat will charge you an arm and a leg

OR you go down the route of swapping the locks - ECU's - fuseboxes etc etc off a donor car to get 2 keys instead

Me - find the local auto sparky
