Hi all i just bought a fiat punto 1.2 16v sporting 2000
im getting it done for its m.o.t iv done the brakes wipers and some other stuff but i cant get the main beams to work iv tried new bulbs new fuses and new fuse box but still nothing i pushed down on the relay and they started working but then when i tried them 10 mins later they stopped working so i jammed the relay in and it started working again but then 10mins later once again they stopped working so i replaced the hole fuse box fuses and relay and still no main beam the light on the dashboard also lights up when turning on the main beam any help would be fab thanks

Is the ground good on the lights?
My advice would be to check the bulb adaptor, testing it with a multimeter would identify where the issue is. Try straight accross the bulb connector, pos and neg, if that gives no reading, in pos and common ground on the body somewhere, this would test if the ground is the issue. If not you've got to track it back, could be a issue in the loom

No mention of a new relay

pressing down on it is maybe making a connection inside to complete circuit?

Try borrowing a spare relay off another funciton on the car

The High beam and low beam are the same relays, so you can swap them over to see whats what

I'd be probing with a multimeter here, checking powers and continuity

pin 87 should be live when main beam on
and as said can be swapped for dipped relay
one in the underbonnet fusebox other one in side car fusebox
from what i can see on my wiring diagram your relay is the one in the car as this also powers the light on the dash
see if it has power by using a bulb on a wire or a multimeter so you can confirm if there is a break from relay to fuses, obviously a bit of a giveaway too is if it doesnt click
of course on this age car its highly likely its the switch on the column at fault rather than further down in the timer unit or fuse box but see what you find

To the OP - does the High beam symbol on the dash also light up when you flash the high beams (full beams) (blue symbol)
