I'm currently changing my gearbox for the second time this year. The first one was changed as the input shaft bearing had gone causing the whirring sound you get when the clutch is up. I changed it for one from a scrappy, but a few weeks ago this started making the same noise. Luckily I had a replacement under warranty from the scrappy.

Anyway I've just dropped the box out and the input shaft is solid? Could a different bearing in the box make the same noise if it went? Or is it something else? Just hoping I'm not wasting my time swapping out a perfectly good box :L

Thanks

Matt

Could be that -- as the box has just started making the noise -- there's little perceptible wear as yet. Alternatively, the shaft is supported by two bearings..........

The problem is, so it would seem. only found on Punto boxes and is due to an underspecced bearing (or two!). So you could possibly go through every box in the scrappy and encounter the same issue.

Personally, I'd fit a new bearing and seal.
