Afternoon all

Both airbag lights have decided to stay illuminated on my 2004 (53 plate) Punto this morning. The passenger (yellow) flashes once started but then remains lit. The drivers (red), doesn't flash, just stays illuminated.

Any idea what this could be?

I have managed to find the free version of Fiatecuscan 3.4.2. Could someone please advise whether this free version will diagnose the airbag fault and which cable I need?

Looking on ebay, there seems to be all sorts on there!

if buying leads you need the kkl vw lead and the red fiat lead
i dont know if your free version will work though

Have you checked the connection of the airbag deactivate switch first though, sounds like it may be linked to this, especially if its showing as deactivated on the instrument panel but is set to 'on'.

he says red light on too so it needs ecu reading and possibly clearing
only other way to clear the codes is if ecu spiked and he replaced with same type but good one
ie no intrinsic wiring fault

Oh yeah, forgot the Punto's are not self resetting :bang:

So, if there is a chance the free version not working is my only option taking it to a garage?

The Free Version downloadable from the FES/MES website should work at resetting airbag warning lights

that lead is instead of kkl and red adaptor lead
just be aware the switch will in my opinion be poor quality so treat it with kid gloves

I successfully used the free MES software to reset my airbag warning light. I used this cable set:

You get the KKL cable as well as the red adapter cable that lets you read the airbag ECU. However I found I also needed to download a driver for the cable from here:

Good luck!

If both lights came on together, there is a good chance its the passenger exclusion switch interferance detected error

If so - clear it and do the modification set in the airbag video

But get the codes first!

you are quite correct here
i had this exact fault last week
i could clear the red light but not the switch
i even tried another switch
and another ecu
it still came back as faulty switch
i didnt fancy letting my fiat agent bodge a new bit of loom in
so it went out with passenger airbag switch turned off /red light out

joke is the car was fine for some 9 years
Not untill the last 1 / 1.5 years before it died the light was a bugger for coming on and off again
Periods of time seriously varied

I think i hit 136 counts of interferance according to FES, i must have reset it handfully and toefully

its a wiring/earthing issue then
i tried another switch on the one i did this week plus i even cleaned and reconnected the passenger airbag 10 times in case it was a contact issue
as i said i think? i sent this one out with drivers airbag working, passenger one not

I've reset the error and will see how long it takes to re-appear.

If its back quickly I'll look at getting the airbag switch fix kit and re-wire the switch as per the video on the forum.
