Hi everyone, apologies in advance if this question has been answered previously.

I have done almost 20k miles without a service on my mk2 2001 punto elx, seen some redex engine flush cheap from tescos only £1.51 for 400ml just wondering if this will be ok as a short term fix until I get my service parts sorted and find a nice day to do it!. I am a car novice and thought I would ask if anyone has prior experience of it before buying it pouring it in and messing my engine up.

Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Redex engine flush - as in via the petrol tank?

In that case No

If the engine was that badly looked after
For oil
I'd drop the oil - Fill it up with Cheap but suitable oil with an engine oil flush in there

Run as instructed, and drop the mixture out

then replace Oil and filter again with decent stuff

Why? Any sludge can be broken up
those Oil pockets that never come out will be able to be flushed with cleaner oil

i always found my oil was black as hell as it was dropped again

ziggy

Hi thanks for the speedy response, I meant redex engine flush pouring it into where the oil goes?. I have bought all my service parts today and will be conducting a service shortly, hopefully.

So what you mean is when I change the oil mix the engine flush with new oil(cheap stuff) then pour it in to where the oil goes just to clarify? Run the engine for a while then empty the oil out and put fresh oil in again (good stuff castrol gtx) on the same day?

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but your tip sounds like an excellent idea. Thanks for your help.

to repeat
you say you dont know history of engine
change oil and filter run the car for a few weeks
repeatwith new
oil and filter

oil and filter is now less than £20 for these cars

i have friend he do flush on audi thinking good job, engine drop big end
big bill 4g
and he does it for a living too:D
leave flushes to people who upsell snake oil

message ends.......
....

I'd add forte engine flush, leave in in the car for 200 miles or 2 weeks (not what it says on the pot) then change oil and filter, i wouldn't use redex

took a sump off a punto 3 weeks ago
it was full of treacle ,not seen anything like it since mk1 escorts
would you seriously put something in to this punto like forte so as to break it down and let it travel round all the oil orifices? and leave it in for 2 weeks?

do you not consider a careful oil and filter change and let that go round and leave anything that shouldnt be disturbed where it is
