Hi could anyone help please,
I need to drain and replace the gearbox oil as the gears are sometimes quite stiff to engage.
Are there any good oils to use other than tutela 75synth?
Fiat punto mk2 1.2 8v
Thanks.

i used 75-85w that my local parts stores had and never had issues with the box on the last car

on the punto ive used 2x sets of 75-90w as its cheaper
carlubes said its suitable for crs that should have that oil
but since i had a leak, i brought some online from eurocarparts
triple qx or something like that
75-90w 2L for 10.44 delivered and i cant complain it worjs and the box is smooth and quiet :)

Thank you for the quick replies. I have been looking on euro car parts at the triple qx it seems like a pretty good oil. In the manual it recommends 75w80 gl5, is there much difference between 75w80 and 75w90?
I'm not too fussed on a little difference in price
Thanks.

I believe it's weights where differences lie. GL4 and 5 are both different too. I know 5 can be tough on brass components. I'm sure Iggy will correct me.

what ever is used in my punto atm isn't affecting owt
when its cold its a swine to find gears sometimes, its tight still been recon'd

the 75w is how viscous the oil is in the winter (w = winter)
So when its cold it has a viscoity rating of 75, pretty thick
When its warmed it has a viscoity ratingof 80/85/90 etc

As when its cold you want oils to be less viscous to help things flow
But when its warm you dont want it to be soo thin it hardly lubricates anything!!

the more viscous it is, the more it resists to flow

Cheers that has cleared things up a little. Also do you know If it's a synchromesh transmission?
Thanks

Oooh Yes, not usually a syncro problamatic box unless you had grandma who didnt treat the clutch well and crunched every since gear

Punto's boxes are very weak on there bearings, often run dry due to UK roads and often never had a fluid change which they should get now and then

Haha I hope not, it's strange because I'm reading loads of stuff about gear oil. Pretty much all of them state gl5 is not good for synchro with brass parts, the manual recommends gl5 so I guess there will be no problems haha
