after a supprisingly successful head gasket change i now have issues fitting the spark plugs

no1 and no 2 went in no probs with a little grease but im having issues with 3 and 4

no 4 was only in half way and quite loose when i removed which was probably a contributing factor to the poor running in the first place.

previous owner has obviously done some work on it as he left cam cover loose and no 4 plug loose and thus oil was leaking down and into the plug hole! muppet!

any ideas of how i can get them in without buggering up the threads completely?

ive tried with a chaser but it appears the socket is too thick to go into plug hole

maybe thinking a hardned 14mm bolt and lube to clean threads? or possibly some copper grease on threads?

issue is they feel very tight at about 2 3rds of the way in and i dont want to force in due to the head obviously being ally and dont want it cracked or f**ked after having it skimmed and re fitting it

any ideas greatly appriciated

Very difficult to know without looking/feeling it.

You really, really, really, should have checked before you put the head back on. My best course of action would be to remove the head.

If you insist on not doing that, then you can make a chaser by bashing the insides out of an old spark plug, cutting 4 slots in it (hacksaw), filing down any obvious sticky out bits (needle file) and filling with grease.

Yes makes sense ideally i didnt want to have take head off again but ive taken it off anyway to be on safe side, ive ordered a tool to re thread and put inserts in ( not helicoil ) hopefully this will work if not ill just drill, tap and use a helicoil as i have in the past for other ally head threads.

Pain in the back side but at least once all bk together should be good to go, where as if i leave swarf in eventually no doubt cause damage to the bores etc

cheers guys
