Driver side dipped beam not working?

Hey,

Once I fixed one problem another problem seems to crop up anyway, so my Driver side dipped beam doesn't want to work although, indicator, sidelight and full beam work? (driver side).

I've checked the fuses, they look okay checked voltage on the pin reads about 0.13v unless i'm doing it wrong as I never done a voltage check on a headlight in my life.....

I have changed bulbs 3 times and nothing and connector seems to be fine no corrosion no burned out cable, so this one has puzzled me to death....Need to sort it though cause its NOW the only thing holding back from an MOT pass!

Any advice or tips will much appreciated guys!

Re: Driver side dipped beam not working?

Was your fuse check just visual? Might be worth swapping them also

Also swap the relays and see if the problem changes sides

Re: Driver side dipped beam not working?

punto uses a single relay to power both - its fused After relay
If 1 works then the relay is fine

But you can double check as the high beam is the same relay too!

And 0.13v at the headlight bulb connector is wrong
should be 12v

Re: Driver side dipped beam not working?

Yeah passenger side works fine as in dipped, full, indicator, sidelight, with driver side just dipped isn't working, how do you check the voltages correctly as I think I may of done it wrong (wouldn't be a first!)

Re: Driver side dipped beam not working?

Depends on the connector
But basically H7 is a 2 pin light bulb

push + into 1 pin
Push - into the other pin

With set to 20V (DC) you should get a reading of 12v IF the light unit works correctly

i had a dipped beam failure on the driverside
i ended up having the front end off pretty much

turns out it a wire had snapped (dunno how on earth like)
Only way to find out tho is to get the lights wiring and follow it back to the fusebox
which tbh - is a bitch of a job

Re: Driver side dipped beam not working?

Ah h1 (googles)

Right - the wire you attach to the Bulb - thats +
The light earths (-) via the light casing

So + on the connector the the bulb
an - on the light casing (where metal meets metal)

Should give you 12v when lights on

if its its not - no power been recieved
So double check fuses

I even put Left onto right / right onto left the fault didnt move indicating a engine bay wiring loom fault not light cluster wiring fail

Sorry to be a newb here but do you mean that little connector on the side that looks like its soldered on? If you have a picture it'd be useful

Re: Driver side dipped beam not working?

Scrap that idea, took it to a garage about half an hour ago checked connector, everything I did and nothing and they said it's a matter of tracing the wires to see if it's snapped/broken on it's route to fuse box.

Now my question, obviously loom starts at headlight and if someone can correct me does the loom go past the horn? Cause I can see one with two cables popping out for negative and positive for horn then goes right round to the fuse box. Is this the loom I need to check?

Thanks

Re: Driver side dipped beam not working?

Yes - if my memory serves me correctly the Headlight loom for the driver side has the horns in it too

Pull the whole wiring loom out - its alot easier with bumper and lights out tho

I feel like an absolute tit! I forgot to put the fuse back in for driver side dipped beam! In the internal fuse back (inside the cabin) I blew a fuse about a few days ago and swapped the fuse over to power interior light and forgot to put a new one in for the headlight! haha, thanks for your help Ziggy! Guess it happens to the best of us!

First time I've ever done that, I guess there's always a first time for everything these days! And to be honest I'll never forget this!
