Im nearly sure i seen a thread about this somewhere here before but i cant seem to find it now.

Anytime i wash my MK2 one or both of the headlights gets all fogged up and it dosent clear for ages, like until there's a sunny day, and theres not many of them lately.

Does anyone else have this problem or know why it happens? I dont know if it's doing any harm, but it's really pi**in me off!!! (n)

I used to get this on one of my headlights too, the nearside one( or LH, Passenger). Removing this headlight is a total pain in the butt ! IIRC to completely remove it for a look-see you need to remove the front bumper ! ( great design Fiat  ). Here's what i found:

1) At some point in the past the previous owner had removed the rear cover, and probably not put it back on 'perfectly'. The retaining clip was also broken which meant the cover couldn't be closed completely.
2) There is a 'junction' piece from the Washer bottle that looked like it had become loose, possibly spraying water over the headlight (Not too sure about this , but it was loose).

What i did to cure mine was:
(i) Remove the headlight and give it a good once over, clearing any drain holes.
(ii) Use a Hair drier to romove all traces of moisture from within the headlight assy, this took some time !
(iii) Ensured that the rear covers where a good fit and all of the seal where intact before re-fitting them. (I had to use a piece of Stainless steel 'Locking wire' instead of the broken clip). Punto Headlight cover clip repair

This was about 6 weeks ago, it has poured down with rain and the car has been washed quite a few times since doing this and the condensation has never returned.

HTH.

Hmmmmm i see.

Thanks, but unfortunately the majority of that made little sense to me, being a dumb blonde and all!!

But come to think of it, i had to get a friend of mine to change one of the bulbs for me before  cause i couldnt get the bulb in, and he had to take off the headlight to do this (maybe we are both as thick as each other). So maybe he didnt put it back on properly. I'll ave to get him to have a look for me.

Ta for the reply, i'll give it a go. (y)

I got a MKII as well and get this all the time in the driver side front headlight. Mine is ok at the moment no water sloshing bout in the headlight that I can see and it passed its mot with it full of condensation! Looks like this is another perk of owning a Fiat :D

both mine do it and i have sealed them with silacon after removing the condensation  (n) :bang:

Funny, now that you mention it the headlead which had the cover that didn't seal never had problems, the one that was never tampered with and is knew I do not recall ever seeing without condensation.

The frosted look is nice!
