Does anyone know whether the crossrail underneath the rear bumper is detachable? It looks like it's not welded, but there are 4 obvious bolts (and according to ePER) some other fixings.

The reason I ask is that mine is rusty and needs some attention, and it would be way easier if I could dismount it

4 nuts hold them on
real bugger to get off if its in for a wack and its crushed
later cars have more egg boxe type crash protecters here
much more civilised

beware fasteners might shear so oil em first ( i know you will but its just for the record)

Sounds like the bumper off - and a good session of cleaning first to remove as much rust then heating and oil the sodding things up

If you do manage to get them off - when refitting get your friend the copper grease out
Makes removal in future easier - just messier

Got to hate those Torx bumper retaining screws, real PITA

That's a bit of a surprise, those nuts look pretty small (M6 guess)

think they are 10mm headed nuts
actually the system works really well
you have a plastic bumper cover for show
then you have this metal for an accident ,designed to absorb most of the impact,
then you have the rear panel that too absorbs the impact
its amazing how in practise it all works in harmony to the point someone thinks their rear end bump is nothing until you take the bumper cover off ans show them all the damage
