Hi
I have a 2003 Mk2b Punto and the front wipers have developed a fault.

The intermittent, normal and washer settings (the washer’s still spray water) no longer work and the single push only works if you hold the stalk up.

The only setting that works is the fast speed and even then it will not return to the stop position when you cancel the wiper.

I've checked the linkage and everything appears to be fine.

From looking through the forums I’ve seen various suggestions for similar problems from relays to new stalks and was wondering what the best course of action was.

not had this (yet:eek:)
substitution would in my opinion be the only way
personally i think its the stalk and considering the age of the car and the fact its one of the first mk2b would be my consideration
you could of course monitor the output to the motor with a multimeter as the stalks need a more involved removal operation taking head of airbag protocol

had a similar defect on the ol mk2

No wipers on
wash - int - 1 and push up

Only had it on 2 and it was stupidly fast

Turns out the motor had gathered lots of water and shorted it out badly
When the mech took the motor off it just gushed out - a nasty brown colour = Dead linkage set

I've had a Mk1 with the opposite to Ziggy -- the "cure" was to get a replacement motor and linkeage from the scrappy. The issue was with the speed controller on the motor: it almost always is, and the linkeage, of course, was fine, but it's quicker to pull the whole lot as a unit (on Mk 1s and Centos, anyway).

Thanks for the advice.

I'll open up the motor and see if there's any water.

Although I think it might be worth getting hold of a new motor and linkage and swapping them over.

Hi

Thought I would post an update.

There was no problem with the linkage or the motor and in the end I bought a second-hand set of wiper stalks.

Fitted these a few days ago and this has solved the problem, I now have all speeds working again and also for the first time in about 3-4 years my back wipers work as well.

Thanks to those for the advice.

On to the next problem...
;)

Thats totally bizzare.... why did the stalks fail?
i think somebody got too hard on the stalks (like kids pretending to drive)

Ziggy

Just a guess, but maybe the problem was with the wiper control board that is included in the stalk switch assembly?
