Minor rant time

Had my power steering sorted 2 months ago at a cost of £700. Two weeks after getting the car back, I had a nutter pull out in front of me so I slammed the brakes and hit the horn - only no sound came out!!!!

Taken the car back with the assumption that its their fault due to the replacement unit in the steering column, to be then told the clockwork spring has failed, and its nowt to do with the original work!!!!!!

Is this right, or is there something fishy going on?

Any help will be gratefully received

i had the same thing with my horn a few days back, turned out: the contact surfaces of the horn itself had oxidised/rusted, used some sand paper on them bastards, and all is good :D

Potentially
You need todo a few basic tests first

identify if the horn has actually just died?
Is the contact corroded and showing signs of age?
Is the fuse okay (could have popped during the replacement)
Does the relay work okay?

If the horn is getting 12v - stick the probes of a multimeter set to 20vDC in and press the horn
If there is 12v - its the horn
if not
check the fuse and relay next

being in the trade i always find it fascinating that customers can blame a fitment 2 months after the event for a failure on their car

to be honest it always leaves a pretty nasty taste in my mouth

I THINK
The Hi-beam relay is the same amp and pin style as the Horn relay

In the engine bay fuse box
there are some to the right
The top 1 is the Hi beam
next is the cooling system fan
Then the horn
swap the 2 over

If the Hibeams no longer work but the horn does
Theres your problem

If the fault doesn't reoccour its possibly the fuse
Check the fuse
Engine bay again - Fuses going down the right hand side
its the 4th one down - a 15amp

The fault occurred within 2 weeks of the work being done, (check original post )and seeing as they fitted an entire new steering unit ( not just the power steering motor) it did seem a strange coincidence

If it leaves in a working order and 2 months down the line
Its most likely nothing todo with the work done

something else possibly has failed

The afore mentioned incident with the nutter was the first time I had attempted to use the horn since the work. Maybe my fault but checking the horn worked after having the power steering repaired wasn't done:-(
