Just got my car back from garage and they are saying that one of the ball and socket joints at the end of the cables is jammed and is resulting in the gear stick not to be central and it difficult to go into gears. Are gear cables dear?? Can this be fixed without buying new ones???

What age/engine some puntos (like mine) have a problem with some plastic bushes and a metal linkage which seize up and need a good clean up with a spot of sand paper, nothing to do with the cable but causes the exact problem you describe.

The cables are about £100 each if bought new. Obviously cheaper from a scrap yard but you could buy the same problem

Ahhhhhh really :-( would I had them off u. I can see that it is stuck on one side of the ball and socket joint. Should I get my mate at the garage to see if he can move it back into its central point. He has already greased it up thinking it has seased up because i wasnt using it but i have been using it for 2 weeks fully now and still no change.I am used to the fact that te gear stick sits to the left and that is a bit tougher to move gears but it's niggling at me now I know why! One garage said I need to buy 2 is that right or do I just replace the one if I replace it.
Year is 01 and engine. 1.2 sport 16v, am worried with it having 6 gears it's gimme be more expensive :-(
